WWU Publicity Center

From fall 2020 to summer 2021 I worked as a graphic designer for the WWU A.S. Publicity Center. Over the course of this job, I got to work with clients and develop my skills in creating graphics for different events and campaigns. Here are some of my favorite projects I designed and collaborated on during my time with the PC!

(Left) My design for the 2020 Transgender Day of Remembrance event hosted by the Queer Resource Center.

(Right) The poster I created for the fourth annual WWU QueerCon, a student-led convention celebrating LGBTQ+ representation in media and nerd culture. I’ve been a part of the WWU QueerCon team since 2017, as Assistant Director, artist alley merchant, communications coordinator, and even sign-spinner. Designing the poster for the first virtual QueerCon was a great final chapter of my time with the team.

This is the design I made in collaboration with the SAIRC (Student Advocacy and Identity Resource Center) about an inclusive
Sex-Ed webinar series.

I experimented with a new style of illustration for this project where I worked with simple vectors and very few lines. It was really effective for the final piece and I’m proud of the final result!

During the start of the pandemic, the Publicity Center began to brainstorm a campaign called “COVID-19 IRL”. The goal was to create an information campaign about staying safe during COVID that spoke to people ages 18-25 in their own language instead of the condescending formality associated with other PSAs from the college. I worked on the creation of the brand guidelines and the posts titled “Move The Fuck In”, “COVID-19 & Mental Health”, “Winter 2020 Intersession”, “Holiday Safety”, “Spring Break Staycation”, and the “2020 Halloween” design shown here.

The AS Review is running a summer 2021 article about how students are villainizing their peers who’ve contracted COVID-19, even though unity is key during this pandemic. This is the illustration I made with colorblind friendly contrasts and colors for their accessibility goals.
